New Brunswick Jazz Festival to Feature More Artists, More Stages, Oct.4-7

NEW BRUNSWICK  --  Four of the hottest names in contemporary jazz and R&B—Roy Ayers, Bob Baldwin,  Kim Waters & Chembo Corniel– will headline the 8th Annual New Brunswick Jazz Festival, 4 days of events at venues across the city, Thursday-Sunday, Oct. 4- 7.

This year’s festival will be the biggest to date, featuring sound stages at more New Brunswick restaurants and an extensive lineup of jazz and R&B musicians and vocalists performing from the late afternoons through the evenings.  New Brunswick, already a fine dining destination, will be a haven for jazz and food lovers as many of the restaurants offer ticket holders dinner and/or drink discounts.

The festival kicks off Thursday night at 7:30-10:30PM with a free event hosted by the New Brunswick Jazz Project featuring Winard Harper and Jeli Posse at Makeda on George Street.  Makeda is also the site of Friday’s night kickoff event at 5-8PM featuring jazz legend, Curtis Lundy and his band.  There’s also a 2012 welcome event and dance party that night hosted by the NJ Chapter of Chicago Steppers at The Heldrich Hotel, on Livingston Ave., 8PM-12PM featuring the electrifying Valerie Adams and The New Dimensions Band.   The live jazz music continues at Due Mari on Albany Street  from 10PM-1AM featuring the smooth sounds of The John Bianculli Trio with vocalist Jackie Jones.  The festival continues Saturday at Delta’s Restaurant on Dennis Street with the queen of jazzy blues,  Madam Pat Tandy 7:30-10:30 PM.; followed by the hot saxophonist, James White and his band at Makeda Restaurant, 8-11 PM.;  jazz vocalist, Lady CeCe at Panico’s on Church Street, 9PM-12AM,  and the great trumpeter, Gordon James Band at Tula’s Restaurant, Easton Ave., 10PM -1AM.

Ayers, Baldwin, Porter, and Corniel will be featured at the main event at The Hyatt Regency, 2 Albany Street from 1PM-7PM, on Sunday, Oct. 7. Radam Schwartz with Conspiracy for Positivity featuring vocalist Carrie Jackson, and The JT Project will also perform.

The New Brunswick Jazz Festival was started eight years ago by Allen McGriff at a local lodge and has added new venues and artists each year. “We now have a lineup that is on the level of any jazz festival in the country,” said McGriff.

McGriff says jazz lovers will appreciate the diversity of performances with everything from straight head to jazzy blues, RB, and smooth jazz.

Tickets are $75.00 for reserved seats and $55 for general admission to Sunday’s main event.  Thurs-Friday events are FREE!
